Niederreiter es un winger muy rapido con un gran Forecheck. Tiene buen disparo y abre muchos espacios a sus compañeros. Es un jugador muy batallador y nunca da un puck por perdido sobretodo cuando se trata de batallas en las boards donde se desenvuelve con mucha soltura.
Niederreiter destaco esta temporada en el WC U-20 donde consiguio 10P con su seleccion la suiza y fue posiblemente el jugador revelacion del torneo. A partir del campeonato siguio evolucionando y consiguio estabilizarse en el Top 10 del ISS Ranking. Comparaciones con Rick Nash.
